Install & first run

Download Vicode for Windows, install it, and open your first project.

Download Windows beta

Requirements

  • Windows 11 on x64
  • a way to run a model: local Ollama, hosted Ollama, or an OpenAI API key
  • a local project folder you want Vicode to work in

Download

Download Windows beta

The signed Windows installer will replace this beta release link when signing is complete.

Install

  1. Download the latest Windows installer.
  2. Run the installer.
  3. Launch Vicode from the Start menu.

Until signing is complete, Windows may show a SmartScreen warning on first run. Choose More info and then Run anyway only if you trust the downloaded beta build.

First run

  1. Open a project folder. Vicode works inside the folder you open.
  2. Pick a model in Vicode.
  3. Start a thread and ask for something small.
  4. Review what it did: in the default Ask permissions mode, file changes wait for your review and terminal commands ask before running.

Updating

Beta builds are published through the GitHub release channel. Installed builds check for updates on launch, and you can check manually from Settings → General. Use the download button above for the newest installer until the signed installer flow is finalized.
