Privacy
How Vicode for Windows handles local app data, project context, provider requests, and support information.
Vicode is a local-first Windows desktop app. It stores its data on your device and sends selected context only to the provider you choose for a run.
Local app data
Vicode stores your settings, project list, thread history, run records, Project Knowledge index data, and diagnostics on your machine.
Your source projects and Markdown knowledge folders remain user-owned files. Vicode reads them for context and only writes generated artifacts or project changes through the normal approval flow.
AI provider requests
When you run a task, Vicode sends the prompt and the context needed for that request to the provider you configured.
- Local Ollama processes on your machine.
- Hosted Ollama, OpenAI, or other remote providers process that context externally.
- Provider handling is governed by the terms and privacy policy of the provider you choose.
Do not use a hosted provider for files or notes you are not willing to send to that provider.
Project Knowledge
Project Knowledge indexes Markdown folders, including Obsidian vaults, so Vicode can pull in relevant notes and cite them.
The index is just a local cache. Your original Markdown files remain yours.
No advertising sale or trackers
Vicode does not sell personal information. Vicode does not use third-party advertising trackers in the Windows app.
Support data
If you contact support, include only the information needed to diagnose the issue. Good reports include Vicode version, Windows version, which provider you used, exact steps, screenshots, logs, or error text when relevant.
Do not send API keys, private source code, secrets, or credentials in support requests.
